What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a practical, goal-oriented therapy that helps you understand how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. By identifying unhelpful patterns, we work together to develop healthier coping strategies and create positive change.
What is Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)?
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is considered the gold standard treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and is highly effective for various anxiety disorders. It's a behavioral therapy designed to help you break free from the cycle of fear and avoidance.
By staying with the discomfort and not engaging in compulsions, you learn that your anxiety naturally decreases and that your feared outcomes often do not occur. This process empowers you to develop new, healthier ways of responding to your triggers.
- Exposure: You will gradually and purposefully confront situations, thoughts, or sensations that trigger your anxiety or obsessions. This is always done in a controlled and supportive way.
- Response Prevention: At the same time, you will learn to resist performing your typical compulsions, rituals, or avoidance behaviors that provide temporary relief but ultimately maintain the anxiety cycle.
